Tweet, Twoo my love for Twitter

I F’in love Twitter, its bloody amazing! But how can 140 characters be amazing? Isn’t it just a bunch of celebs moaning or promoting their latest release? Well I am here to tell you different, I wont deny that Twitter has a lot of that. I started tweeting in 2009 and (at the time of writing this, 14,665 tweets later) I have fallen for the social platform. There’s several reasons behind this:

  1. It’s ideal to connect with people you share interests with;
  2. Great way to receive customer service from companies who use it;
  3. I have met some amazing people through Twitter;
  4. Most people are happy to help or reply;
  5. Great way to find out the latest news, gossip or yes…follow your fave celeb;
  6. I have found many amazing places to eat and drink through my followers;
  7. It opens new opportunities; and
  8. Great way to connect professionally too.

If you are a regular tweeter you will know all this already though. Without Twitter I wouldn’t have experienced as much as I have in our beautiful capital. It has opened many doors to me socially and professionally. Socially its a great way of finding brilliant restaurants, swanky bars and fun things to do in the city. Plus its all from real people so you get a personal opinion, instead of one from a paid journalist. If your followers say a place is good, then 9 times out of 10 it is! Accounts such as @Secret_London will open up London’s offerings to you. Send a tweet asking where is good to eat, they will retweet it to its many followers, then sit back and wait for the influx of replys and opinions to start flooding in.

Professionally it’s also a great tool to network. With last weeks #Tweetversation held by Twitter UK, where you got to ask @brucedaisley (Director of Twitter in the UK) work related questions, demonstrated how brilliant the platform is for connecting with people who would be of value to you.

After the hashtag extravaganza I retweeted, tweeted and DM’d my way to connecting to the right people who will hopefully open new doors for me to get my foot stuck in.

On a social and professional basis I have found that everyone is friendly and always happy to help. Twitter has certainly helped me out. You just have to use Twitter with an open mind, and sometimes take things with a pinch of salt. All in all, I love Twitter as a social platform and the company, it has introduced me to so many cool things and awesome people (you all know who you are ;-) ). So if you haven’t signed up yet (where the hell have you been all this time?), then I suggest you do, and let it open doors for you, as it has me.

If you have made it to the bottom of my jibberings then you should really follow me. I can be found tweeting under @paulbe_. For ideas of awesome people to follow, go through my following list and pick a few to get you started.

IronMan3 Teaser Trailer

17 seconds of pure amazingness (is that even a word?) the IronMan 3 teaser trailer is wetting our appetites for the release of the full trailer which will be found on the Apple Trailers website Thursday. The 17 seconds show us that Iron Man has a new gold plated suit, Pepper Potts ends up in trouble and there’s a new bad guy. Being a bit of a film geek I am excited for Thursday great build up for SkyFall on Friday.

Instagram RndUp – Street Art

Howdy Ya’ll! Thought I would come and do a instagram round up, more like a show & tell. Working in and around Shoreditch has its perks for the street art lover, why? Because its bloody every where, Shoreditch and connecting areas have this awesome underground street art culture. It’s more or less a gallery on the streets. The most infamous place I know of is Bricklane, artists such as Roa, C215, Stik, Otto and others go to Bricklane to leave their master pieces for public viewing. Redchurch St. also has a lot of it. If you have never been to Shoredtich and you want to start yourself on a street art adventure, head down to Bricklane and just follow the art till it stops, you wont be stopping for a while. Here are just a few of the pieces I have found.

Protein By DunneFrankowski

Protein by DunneFrankowski is a little coffee oasis hidden down the back of Hewett Street, Shoreditch. 18 Hewett Street is a simple, minimalist, multi purpose coffee bar which also functions as an art gallery. You hear the sound of down tempo beats filling the white walled space as you open the door to Protein. The venue is pretty small to say the least, but it’s also rather intimate, the service is an education in its own right. With no menu, you get yourself a well-educated barrister instead. Which is far easier than trying to decide if you want grande, wet, skinny, extra hot, caramel latte. (You get my point yeah?) The coffee is very good; the presentation is stylish yet minimal which lets the coffee speak for its self. Over hearing Rob one of the owners talking to a customer about coffee, you can tell he is very passionate. His passion shines throughout Protein.

One thing though, they don’t accept card (not sure if they intend to in the future) I didn’t have any cash on me at the time, yet they served me anyway and trusted that I would come back to pay for my coffee. (I did go back and pay for it, don’t worry) Which I thought was extremely trusting in this age. With my loyalty to Starbucks, it has been for a long time but as they hike up their prices and only pay £8.6 million worth of taxes on a £3 billion profit. I am trying to break the mould of the milky, overpriced latte bearer. If you are in Shoreditch and in need of a coffee, don’t go to Starbucks (can’t believe I just said that!) head over to Hewett Street and get yourself a simple but amazing tasting coffee from Protein.

You can follow the guys on Twitter @DunneFrankowski

18 Hewett Street, EC2A 3NN

Opening Hours : Mon – Friday 8am-5pm
Sat - Coffee Education
Sun – 11am – 5pm

cycling chic

I love a trendy looking bike, and in London there are tones of them. From the racey fixed wheel bikes to the classic looking bikes with baskets, yet who can forget the Boris Bikes too. Which are actually extremely popular, spend £1 on your debit card and the boris bike is yours for 24hrs to travel around London till your legs give in. You can find more info about the Boris Bikes and costs here.

Pedal power is the in thing at the moment, with the weather being as amazing as it is. Ditching the tube, saving your feet and getting on a bike is the way forward. Not only does it get you fitter, but it saves you money too. It is a win win. (Until you get knocked off it, of course.) With London having a massive cycle community i thought i would seek out the top bikes on the market for you, as well as where to get them. Although my research may be limited, it may help you out it may not.

iPhone 5 my thoughts.

So the iPhone 5 has caused some stir amongst the Apple community. Apple geeks complaining that it’s not that different to the 4s, its too light, its too long, the camera isn’t any better, battery life sucks, maps is shit. Blah Blah Blah…Well for one thing, I have never had a iPhone 4s so upgrading from my 4 to the new 5 has concreted my love for the iPhone. Despite all the moany little bitches who were expecting a phone which could wipe their ass. I am very, very happy with my spanking new iPhone. So here are my thoughts on it.

We all know first impressions count. The first in impression from the 5 is that the phone is beautifully designed bit of kit, just like any other Apple product it wows you. The Alu back with the frosted finish is such a stylish touch and it feels great in the hand, actually the whole phone feels just amazing in the hand. (it took me a few days to get use too, but now its second nature) You notice the 18% thinner design as you hold it like your old iPhone, that is another thing it may be taller giving you a 16:9 format but its just as wide as your old iPhone. You wont be all fingers and thumbs, like most of the other smart phone users out there who aren’t Apple fans. You know the ones I mean, right? Those Samsung Galaxy users who have to have both hands free to use the phone, because its physically impossible to use with one hand unless you got hands like Ray Clemence.

Performance wise the 5 blows my 4 out the water and then some. Its SO FAST, like REALLY FAST!!! An F1 one car can reach 0-60 in under 2.5secs. Well my iPhone 5 can launch an app in less than that!! (might of exaggerated that a little bit) The screen is crystal clear, everything pops off the screen making gaming, reading, surfing the net a very pleasurable experience. Plus with the new 16:9 wide screen format HD films are beautiful, also using the phone in landscape is has a nice touch too.

The front panel of glass on the phone is also different from my 4, it feels slick and very smooth your thumb, fingers what every you tend to use your phone with, just glide across the surface . The phone is just so slick I LOVE it. The only thing I haven’t really had time to test properly is the battery life, which is meant to be a lot better. Considering I haven’t really put the phone down since I got it on the day of release. Its hard to test…

So what about maps, the camera, passbook etc etc? Well they are parts of iOS! Maps may be shit, passbook may not be useful to anyone not flying American Airlines. But this is my iPhone review not iOS. I am sure Cook and his team of minions will fix the issues soon enough.

All in all, the iPhone 5 is a master piece. Its a beautiful device, SUPER FAST, bright, clear and just feels amazing in the hand. So if you are looking for a new phone go and buy the iPhone 5, unless you have hands like Ray Clemence and you can cope with a phone which is nearly the same size as your face.

ping pong

Pop!! There goes my dimsum cherry thanks to Ping Pong. A small chain of super cool Japanese restaurants, after having shitty attempts at dimsum (you know like you get in those all you can eat places) I thought I would try it for real. I wasn’t disappointed. The small chain based in London that is PingPong was an awesome experience. Where to begin? Greeted at the door by a friendly front of house, being showed to your table with the sound of chilled down tempo music in the background. The whole restaurant is well put together with its trendy cocktail bar and modern decore

For someone who hasn’t ever been to a proper dimsum restaurant before the menu is a bit daunting. There is a lot to choose from. So asking for the friendly staff for their advice, I went for the set menu which. If you are a dimsum pro I would imagine you would be able to cope with the multiple dishes. However me being a dimsum virgin I went for set menu which was £32 for two people sharing. (bargain I hear you scream? Yes it was good value) Some things came out at spectate times, but the main dimsum comes out together in their little steamers. I found it best to share all the dishes out.

Shared between two there is plenty of food for a quick evening bite to eat after work. With there being happy hour EVERY DAY between 5pm & 7pm (ALL drinks half price) you could also get very drunk on thier selection of awesome cocktails. With the set menu you get desert too, which was just as good as the main, happened to be one of the best but very different brownies I have had.

With the company embracing social media you can get in touch via their website, Twitter or Facebook. With ping ping being a great all rounder for that quick but cheap evening meal it’s worth going. I will be visiting one of their restaurants again soon I am pretty sure of It.
